DR Angela O'Brien

PRESIDENT

Professor Angela O'Brien has over 20 years experience in academia with senior management and leadership positions since 1993, including foundation Head of Creative Arts, University of Melbourne and Deputy Dean of Graduate Research. She has widespread governance and committee experience on educational, professional and community bodies. An extensive background in teaching, research and publication includes funding and partnership relationships with Government and Industry, including the Australian Research Council, the Australia Council, the Victorian Departments of Justice, Human Services and Education, VicHealth and Arts Victoria. Her ADR expertise is in arts and cultural organisations, educational sectors, government sectors, and the workplace. In addition to her IAMA responsibilities, Angela O’Brien serves on the National Mediation Accreditation Implementation Committee

Warren Fischer is the managing director of Alternative Dispute Resolution Services Pty Ltd and during the past 25 years has worked in Australia, Indonesia and the United Kingdom as a Civil and Structural Engineer. Warren has undertaken feasibility studies, design, construction, project and contract management in the building, construction and mining arenas. Warren presently practices exclusively in alternative dispute resolution and associated fields in the building, civil, mining and body corporate arenas. ANTHONY GRIEVE

Anthony Grieve is a lawyer and engineer. NSW Chapter Committee 1991-1993, 2003-.  From 1968-1990 he acted as an engineering designer and manager of building and engineering contractors.  Practices as an arbitrator, referee, mediator and expert determiner. Chairman of the Joint Venture for the Implementation of the ADR in ICT project which was recently launched by Senator Helen Coonan.  Initiated the Memorandum of Cooperation between Engineers Australia and IAMA.

Bryan Ahern

Bryan Ahern is a civil engineer with extensive experience in civil and building construction as well as maintenance works. He is a Grade 2 Arbitrator, Accredited Mediator and Registered Mediator under the ACT’s Mediation Act and a Class A Builder. He is currently involved in project management of large scale property developments and consults on various forms of commercial contracts throughout all stages: from concept development through to documentation, tendering, administration, and dispute resolution and has been involved high profile projects that include Sydney Airport Parallel Runway, New and Old Parliament Houses, F4 Tollway Sydney, and the National Museum of Australia. He has been a member of the Master Builders Association National Contracts Committee and Standards Australia OB/3 Sub Committee on AS 2124/AS 4000 suite of General Conditions of Contract.

DR Clyde croft sc

Accredited Mediator Senior Counsel

Dr Clyde Croft SC practises as an arbitrator and mediator (internationally and domestically) and as Senior Counsel, extensively in the commercial law, property, securities, leasing, equity, trusts and building and construction areas, with Chambers in Melbourne and with Falcon Chambers in London. He is the author and co-author of leading texts in many of these areas. Dr Croft was President of the Institute of Arbitrators and Mediators Australia for three years (1997 – 2000). He is also a Life Fellow, a Grade 1 Arbitrator and an accredited mediator of the Institute. Dr Croft is now a Director and Treasurer of Australian Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (ACICA), having been its foundation Vice – President (and Vice – President, 1996 – 2003). He is also a member of the ACICA and Asia Pacific Regional Arbitration Group (APRAG) panels of international arbitrators and has been representing APRAG at the twice yearly UNCITRAL International Arbitration Working Group Sessions since 2005. Dr Croft is also a mediator accredited by the Victorian Bar  and is a Sessional Member, Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal. Scott ellis

Scott Ellis is a barrister at Francis Burt Chambers, Perth.  He practices in the areas of commercial litigation and alternative dispute resolution.  He is accredited as a mediator by Leadr and is on the WA Supreme Court List of Mediators.  He is also a graded arbitrator and an adjudicator registered under the Construction Contracts Act 2004 (WA).  He is a part time member of the Superannuation Complaints Tribunal and is a referee under the Insurance Ombudsman Scheme.  He was a Commissioner of the District Court of Western Australia in 2006 and before that a partner at Freehills for a number of years.

Robert Hunt

Robert Hunt was President of IAMA from 2000 to 2002. He practises as a barrister and dispute resolver, and is a member of numerous arbitration and ADR panels in Australia and overseas. He practices in domestic and international disputes, usually in construction, engineering, commercial and IP matters. He is a director of ACICA, the Australian National Representative for the IBA Mediation Committee, and is a member of the Trade & Arbitration Rules Committee of the International Seed Federation. Karyn Reardon

Karyn Reardon specialises in resolution of large construction and engineering disputes. She has a detailed understanding of ADR practices, having been involved in a number of matters resolved by way of mediation, arbitration, adjudication and expert appraisal. Karyn also drafts and reviews construction and engineering project documentation. Karyn has conducted on-site training for corporate clients, and has lectured in Construction Law and Arbitration Law at QUT. Karyn is Treasurer and Honorary Secretary of IAMA’s Queensland chapter, and a National Councillor. She is a graded arbitrator, a registered adjudicator and an accredited mediator, and co-author of The Adjudicator’s Guide.

Andrew Robertson is a partner in the national dispute resolution practice of Piper Alderman. Andrew has degrees in Economics, Law (with Honours) and Commerce. In addition to practising as part of Piper Alderman’s national dispute resolution team, Andrew is also a qualified accountant (CPA), graded arbitrator and accredited mediator.

Graeme Robinson works in the international mining and construction industry in the management and construction of multi billion dollar projects and as the determiner of disputes in Australia as arbitrator and court referee, and mediator of mining and construction disputes in Australia, the Pacific Islands, Asia, and the Middle East. He is the NSW Chapter vice Chairman and mediation committee convenor.
Tim Sullivan

Tim Sullivan is a Director of Contract Administration P/L and is a contract administrator, workplace assessor and dispute resolution consultant who practices in areas such as mining and infrastructure, building and construction, engineering work, workplace relations, property, finance, franchises, partnerships, professional conduct and professional fees. He has been involved in administration of contracts or resolving disputes for major construction projects such as the Parliament House Canberra, the High Court building in Canberra, the Sydney Airport to rail tunnel in Sydney, Ocean Outfall work, mining infrastructure works in NSW and Queensland, and major freeway developments. Tim is also a tutor in the Professional Certificate in Arbitration course and regularly presents in the Institute’s other training courses.
