FORMER High Court justice Michael Kirby, who retired from the bench last month, has joined the Institute of Arbitrators and Mediators Australia, the country's leading alternative resolution organisation. IAMA acting chief executive Gianna Totaro says Kirby gave the keynote address at the body's inaugural dinner in Canberra in 1976, in his capacity as the first chairman of the Australian Law Reform Commission. ``Having regard for his visionary intellectual leadership and commitment to social and legal reform, it is a great honour and privilege for us at the institute to welcome him back in his new role,'' she says. Kirby says he intends to ensure the institute's services are ``not only for wealthy parties''.
